our first meeting was not a particularly interesting one

or one that garners much attention–

as a story, it is really rather

it wasn’t as if the heavens sang a prayer

or Cupid scampered around Olympia,

shouting of his success.

2017 has descended from the heavens.

i look to the sky and wonder

what this year will bring.

or will mundane life trudge on as normal–

will 2018 sneak up on me

just as 2017 has?

will love finally grant me a wish

or will it tease my heart,

flitting away before…

will you stand there beside me in

a year’s time

and watch the ball drop?

or will i find myself in the same position as this year

and the last,

gazing forlornly at the television?
